The funny-looking, but effective, breathing exercise
/Ready for a great breathing tip that improves attention, increases energy and reduces stress and anxiety (all in one)? It’s called Alternate Nostril Breathing and you can literally feel the difference after trying it.
Fair warning though. It does look pretty funny. However, if a breathing technique can energize and calm at the same time, I say go for it! We worked on this in a few classes last week, and the kids agree.
Here’s how it works.
I learned this technique in my Teen yoga training, but it’s really effective for any age.
Improved attention and focus
It helps sharpen mental clarity by providing equal amounts of oxygen to both sides of the brain. This also results in a boost of energy. A great exercise for kids and teens at school, athletes before a game, or adults at work.
The calming effect
With this technique, the brain registers a message for your nervous system to move from a stressed state to a relaxed response. Especially when breathing through just the left nostril, the right side of your brain is triggered into a relaxation state.
Give it a try! Happy breathing, my friends.
