Inspiration from my Grammie
/I'd like to introduce you to my Grammie. She is 89 years young. She still hops on a plane to travel. She's an amazing artist and painter. She's on Facebook. She loves a good glass of wine or two at night. She takes a weekly Tai Chi class. And guess what? She JUST picked up yoga 1 year ago.
I recently got to catch up with Grammie in person while on vacation in Cape Cod. She wanted to know all about the kids, what's new in Rochester, and wanted the scoop on Butterfly Kids Yoga. After filling her in on the latest, Grammie and my 4 year old daughter started to chat while I sat back and enjoyed the conversation between great-granddaughter and great-grand(mie).
And guess what? They talked yoga! If there was ever a moment where I wanted to freeze time, it was in that moment. How amazing to have my 89 year old Grammie chatting about yoga with my 4 year old daughter?!
Here they are together on the beach. An 85 year age difference? Doesn't matter.
After they were done chatting, Grammie and I caught up a bit more. I learned that her yoga class makes her feel GREAT. That it helps with her balance and strength. That she looks forward to it each week. That she wants more of her friends to try it (hooray for yoga ambassador Grammie!) "It's not just sitting still...I feel really good after class" she tells me.
Sounds familiar, right? :)
I always wish for more time with her to sit and chat, but am grateful for the special moments that I do have. And as I sat down to dedicate this blog to Grammie, I knew I wanted to share our yoga-moment with all of my Butterfly Kids Yoga friends.
Why?
Because how cool is it that my 89 year old Grammie was talking yoga with my 4 year old daughter? Generations...sharing a timeless activity.
Because at 89 years old, and having just picked up yoga a year ago, Grammie feels great after each class. I hear the same from the kiddos in my classes. And if you've been to a great class recently, you also know that feeling, right?
Because yoga is so much more than holding a pose. It's an activity. It's timeless. And it's something that just plain makes you feel good...regardless of when you start or how long you've been doing it.
So... this blog be dedicated to my Grammie. May her ambition, good health, kind heart, and new love of yoga be an inspiration to us all. I sure do hope I am still practicing yoga and doing just as well as Grammie is at 89 years young!
XO, my friends.
